Hi! Short answer, yes. Adding a completely separate codebase, like an app, just comes with a huge amount of overhead in development and maintenance effort. Especially supporting background geolocation and offline maps (both of which I consider essential for a hiking app) are extremely difficult services to provide reliably. Currently I'm thinking of maybe outsourcing these aspects to osmAnd by creating a plugin and building a custom app for the trail management aspects of wanderer. Cheers |

Thanks @Flomp for your quick and clear answer. It seems that you have a mature long term vision of the whole thing, it's very encouraging (and I pretty much second all the points you make regarding quality of the product, health of the project, and so on). I'm not available myself to get involved in the topic, so I'll do my best to help by spreading the word and supporting the development. In the meantime, I'll make time to get outside and make some trails to upload :) |

Hi,
First of all, congrats for wanderer, it's an exciting project! I'm the admin of https://mapstodon.space, a Mastodon instance for maps and geospatial aficionad@s, and I'm considering running an instance of wanderer (I already installed one for testing purposes). I'm wondering if there are any plans to develop a mobile app that would go along the web app?
Thanks!
