Can not connect two usb devices together

Netgear R7000 - 2026.1 AIO

I have a usb hub connected to the front USB 3.0 port, with two hard drives formatted in ex4.

I also have an hp laserjet printer that i usually connect to the USB 2.0 on the back side.

I keep the USB Support page open:

If I connect the Hub, it shows at the bottom of the configuration page, it works and auto shares both drives.

If i disconnect the Hub and connect the printer to the back, it shows at the bottom of the configuration page, it works and can be configured on a pc. It prints.

If I connect both, nothing is shown at the bottom of the configuration page, accessing /tmp/mnt/DRIVENAME shows an empty folder and the printer does not print anymore.

I have no way to test this issue – I don't have a USB printer.
However, all my tests with USB flash drives and LTE modems are successful.

Other than that, USB support has remained virtually unchanged since version 2024.3: https://github.com/FreshTomato-Project/freshtomato-arm/commits/arm-master/release/src-rt-6.x.4708/router/rc/usb.c

I am testing the new version and I am currently able to print and share the USB drive.
Only issue I see is in the GUI, as there is nothing shown under "Attached Devices" in the USB Support page. Maybe just a graphical glitch.

Just as an addition.

I use the hard drive to stream audio and video.
When the hard drive and the printer are connected, streaming video works for some seconds, then stops. Audio has not this issue, probably because of the much lesser amount of data.

After disconnecting the printer, streaming video works perfectly.
Is there any test / log I could get in order to let you better understand where this problem is coming from ?

Thanks for the report. I cannot reproduce this on other routers with two USB devices connected simultaneously, so we need to determine whether this is related to the USB hub/devices, power, or the R7000 USB controller.

First, please provide:

• exact USB hub model and whether it has its own external power supply;
• exact HDD/enclosure models and whether they are externally powered;
• exact HP LaserJet model.

Please also perform the following tests after a clean router reboot.

1. Connect only the printer to the rear USB 2.0 port. Verify that it works, then provide:

dmesg | grep -Ei 'usb|xhci|ehci|ohci|storage|scsi|sd[a-z]|usblp'

2. Reboot, connect only the USB hub with both HDDs to the front USB 3.0 port. Verify that both disks work, then provide the same dmesg output plus:

mount
df -h

3. Reboot with no USB devices connected. Then:

   • connect the hub with both HDDs first;
   • wait until both disks are mounted;
   • connect the printer;
   • wait about 10 seconds;
   • provide:

dmesg | tail -n 150
mount
df -h

4. Repeat the previous test in the opposite order: printer first, then the hub.

Please also test these combinations:

• empty USB hub + printer;
• hub + only one HDD + printer;
• hub + both HDDs + printer.

If the hub is bus-powered, please repeat the test using a powered USB hub. This is especially important with two HDDs attached.

If available, please also tell us whether the same hub + HDDs + printer combination works simultaneously with the original NETGEAR firmware.

The most useful result is the dmesg output immediately before and after connecting the second USB device. Please do not reboot between the failure and collecting that log.

I'm on the last build 2026.3
So far I have followed your instruction just once and I am giving you the results.

THOUGH

Now, after booting up with no device attached, connecting the HDs, then the printer and waiting 10 seconds, although the USB Support page does not show any connected device, they both seem to be working. I tried with a print and samba/nfs access.
I'll check if streaming still stops after some seconds.

I suppose it could be just an UI glitch. Anyways here are my tests:

Thank you for the detailed results.

The latest test shows that both disks and the printer are detected and operational at the same time:

• both disks are attached as sda and sdb;
• both EXT4 filesystems are mounted;
• the printer is attached as usblp0;
• Samba/NFS access and printing work.

Therefore, this no longer looks like a USB power problem or an inability to use both USB ports simultaneously. The empty device list on the USB Support page may be a separate GUI/status-refresh issue.

There are several xHCI warnings associated with the Inateck docking station:

WARN: short transfer on control ep
WARN no SS endpoint bMaxBurst
WARN: Stalled endpoint

They do not currently prevent the disks from working, but they may become relevant if streaming stops again.

Please perform one final test:

1. Keep both disks and the printer connected.
2. Transfer or stream a large file continuously for at least 10–15 minutes.
3. At the same time, confirm that printing still works.
4. If the transfer stops, immediately collect:

cat /proc/scsi/scsi

Please do not reboot before collecting the output.

While all devices are working but the USB Support page is empty, please also try:

• a forced browser refresh;
• leaving the USB Support page and opening it again;
• opening it in a private/incognito window.

Please report whether the devices then appear in the GUI.

If storage and printing remain operational and only the device list is missing, we should treat this as a GUI display issue rather than a USB hardware issue.
