For the basic/network part of a config in wireless client/ethernet bridge/media bridge or in general where an SSID needs to be picked up:
I would suggest a scan/select button to be implemented so that typos are avoided and the whole process sped up in general.

To add to this, I would not remove the free text field as occasionally you might want to set this up remotely and then ship/transport the device. In my mind the scan would display all the sensed SSID as an option only. Once the list is populated if a network is clicked this would autofill the SSID field only.
