Japanese language support

The Japanese files are included with nearly every version of the game, however the fonts do not display properly. I recently got a Japanese copy of the game to see what's happening, and as it turns out the game has a different exe that loads the Chinese directory as well as displays the fonts properly, however it also isn't affected by patch 1.4, and as such still contains securom. I can provide the exe if it's needed, and I'd be really glad to figure out why the fonts don't display at all.

Huh, that is very interesting, its weird because the engine still supports the Japanese fonts, could you send the executable? i was originally thinking that all languages where supported but this is very weird

yeah, i figure it out, although im not sure how to test it since i cant find the japanese files to test

So can you explain what's happening? I wanted to also try running it on steam without the need to put in a disc every time, so I'd be glad if you told me what's going on with the fonts.

it seems like that The Japanese font its not being properly mapped, im not sure if the font in the japan version has a different name but stock doom 3 engine expects the font to be name "japanese"
