Hello,
I would like to request better compatibility/support for Duke Nukem 3D and old Windows ports based on the Build Engine, especially ports such as xDuke, ProDuke, Duke3D_w32, and similar DirectDraw-based executables.
These ports are still very important for people who want to play Duke Nukem 3D with a classic software-rendered look, low resolutions such as 320x200 or 640x480, and the original DOS/Windows feeling, but on modern systems.
The main issues are usually related to fullscreen behavior, scaling, black borders, small centered image, 4:3 aspect ratio, low-resolution modes, and sometimes problems with DirectDraw compatibility on newer versions of Windows.
Since cnc-ddraw already works very well with many classic DirectDraw/software-rendered games, it would be extremely useful to have better support or a preset specifically for Duke Nukem 3D ports that use DirectDraw.
Possible improvements could include:
- A preset for xDuke / ProDuke / Duke3D_w32
- Better fullscreen scaling for 320x200 and 640x480
- Correct 4:3 aspect ratio handling
- Option to stretch low resolutions properly without black borders
- Better compatibility with old DirectDraw fullscreen modes
- Documentation/examples for the best cnc-ddraw.ini settings for Duke Nukem 3D ports
I believe this would be very useful for Build Engine fans, especially for users who prefer classic software rendering instead of modern OpenGL ports.
Thank you for your work on cnc-ddraw. It is one of the best tools available for keeping old DirectDraw games alive on modern Windows systems.
