Yes, I have some threads in progress right now.
a) desktop files integration, b) adding a fallback screensaver[1] are the ones which will land soon.

I use this project every day the only reason there isn't more activity is because it works well :).

Good news. I already got the experience that it is stable enough for my non-critical daily tasks. Perhaps the look and feel is a bit too much Material Design for me, but in general I like it. I now tend to switch between Fyne and LXQt regularly. I'll continue following you, and I'll inform you if I found something that IMHO is missing, or what I really don't like :-)

In my curiosity for Go based software I stumbled upon fynedesk a few weeks ago. I've been using it on and off now for a few weeks, and I am ready to share my experiences. My reference machine is simple ten year old small factor laptop with a tiny screen (1355x768), limited RAM (2 GB) and a very low end CPU soc (Atom Z3735F, 4 cores).

• the fyne desktop is simple and spartan (just what I am looking for in a desktop in fact)
• it works really fine, even on my old and really underrated machine
• its steady state memory footprint is rather high: double of what LXQt or XFCE require
• at start up the memory usage is extremely high, but that lowers itself after a few minutes, or earlier by activating the settings widget
• the quiescent cpu load is rather higher than with e.g. LXQt/XFCE, but considerable lower compared to the Rust based COSMIC desktop
• when in narrow mode, the 'dock' is transformed in a 'panel' on the left side of the screen, leaving the existing right panel in place
• both panels seem to refresh/rebuild from time to time (I could not pin point when exactly)
• my preference would be to have both panels combined into one (to be placed at will at any side of the desktop)
• that would more or less resemble running plain openbox with the LXQt panel application (not the rest of the LXQt desktop)
• it seems that the window manager is integral part of fynedesk

My impression of fynedesk is positive, and I can only appreciate the effort that was taken to develop it.

However, there is no real benefit for me to keep on using it on my little laptop. There is nothing to gain (memory usage or cpu load).

Fynedesk is unfortunately not a lean desk. LXQt or XFCE remain the optimal choice for me. And, remarkably, KDE Plasma 6.3, which has the same footprint as fynedesk, works excellent on my tiny laptop. No competition.

I will continue using fynedesk from time to time, anticipating new features and changes. Keep up the good work!

Just so you know that after Fyne v2.6.0 is out in a couple of weeks we will do another Fyne Desk update which should have better performance and smaller memory requirements :)
