fell off system menu #2024

Description

@CarlFK

Describe the bug

I'm not sure what or where the problem is, or even what a good issue title is. best I can describe :

  1. sometimes paring breaks: 2 devices don't see each other. Unpair/pair and all is well for another month or 2. No idea what triggers this, easy enough to work around so I just roll with it.

  2. a few weeks ago the gsconnect item is no longer on my system menu:
    Image

  3. Failed to open prefs for extension “gsconnect@andyholmes.github.io”: Already showing a prefs dialog
    `carl@x1:~$ gnome-extensions prefs gsconnect@andyholmes.github.io'

prefs opened once, then I guess I closed the window, and now:
Failed to open prefs for extension “gsconnect@andyholmes.github.io”: Already showing a prefs dialog

Ubuntu 22.04.5 LTS

carl@x1:~$ gnome-extensions version
42.9

carl@x1:~$ gnome-extensions info gsconnect@andyholmes.github.io
gsconnect@andyholmes.github.io
  Name: GSConnect
  Version: 59
  State: INITIALIZED

Some random things that seem worth noting:

if it's installed from Ubuntu's repositories, it's a number of versions behind (v50 -> v59), but i'm not aware of anything relevant to the system menu that has changed

same error, but I think different cause:
#7435
