Question about Mac Tahoe

Dear Ginan Team,

I recently updated my Mac to Tahoe (the latest macOS version). I’ve been trying to install Ginan from source and via the weekly development build, following the instructions that previously worked, but I haven’t been able to complete the installation.

Have you considered updating the installation instructions for macOS to ensure compatibility with the latest system version?

Do you have any advice or workaround I could follow in the meantime?

Hi JJ,
I have not upgraded my Mac to Tahoe yet so I am not sure if the current basic Apple installation instructions will work there, but if you look in the Ginan source tree under:
ginan/scripts/installation/apple.md
You will finds some notes that worked for at least Sonoma. You will probably need to build the develop_weekly branch snapshot since there have been some changes to the Boost CPP library we needed to patch Ginan to accommodate. We have also recently moved the OSX cmake toolchain files to a new location so the cmake command you will need to execute after all the dependencies are installed is:
cmake -DCMAKE_TOOLCHAIN_FILE=../compile_mac_arm64.cmake -DCMAKE_OSX_ARCHITECTURES="arm64" -DCMAKE_BUILD_TYPE=Release ..
If you also could post the specific errors you are encountering than may help us pinpoint the exact problem.

Hi Simon, Thanks for your reply — that worked quite well, with just a few warnings. I ran: cmake -DCMAKE_TOOLCHAIN_FILE=../cmake/toolchain/clang_mac_arm64.cmake -DCMAKE_OSX_ARCHITECTURES="arm64" -DCMAKE_BUILD_TYPE=Release .. I had some issues with Boost 1.89, which were resolved by switching to version 1.85. After that, I was able to compile using make -j8, and the program is now running perfectly!
