Ubuntu packages are available from an Ubuntu PPA for the following Ubuntu releases:

• Ubuntu 16.04 "Xenial" Xerus
• Ubuntu 18.04 "Bionic" Beaver
• Ubuntu 20.04 "Focal" Fossa
• Ubuntu 22.04 "Jammy" Jellyfish
• Ubuntu 24.04 "Noble" Numbat
• Ubuntu 25.04 "Plucky" Puffin

To add the PPA and install rom-properties, run the following commands:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:gerbilsoft/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install rom-properties-all

This will install all rom-properties frontends and executables. Individual frontends can be installed by installing the relevant rom-properties-* package.

On Windows XP and Windows Server 2003, downloading from the online image databases no longer works due to Cloudflare using newer encryption protocols that older Windows does not support.

As a workaround, cURL 7.84's libcurl.dll can be placed in the same directory as rp-download and it will use cURL instead of WinInet. Note that the old version needs to be used because newer versions no longer support Windows XP or Windows Server 2003.

Note that cURL 7.84 does have known vulnerabilities, so I don't recommend using it for general-purpose functionality. (Or, for that matter, using Windows XP in general, except on an isolated system and/or network.)
