RFE: Make GitHub Artifacts "Versionless"

Currently the released artifacts in GitHub (RPMs, tarballs, zips, etc) include the version number in the file names. This breaks linking to "latest" as you still must know the current version number and makes automating installations / upgrades and writing documentation more difficult than it needs to be.

Could the version numbers please be removed from the artifact file names?

Hello @rgajason

After much internal debate, we prefer to stick with our current release naming, including the version number. We believe it is important, in our context, to provide users with a way to checksum compare what they are installing.

We do certianly understand the deployment issue though. The Winget/Chocolatey issues have been overtaken by other priorities, we will push again and let you know in your other thread concerning chocolatey
