My idea was that there might also be some differences between proposed fees from people working in core facilities or staff scientists vs the researchers. From my setting in Czechia, it would be easy to get money for fee in core facility, but researchers plan any fees months ahead and carefully decide what to pay for.

Czechia might be specific in this, but the comparison might come (maybe not for the current paper, but later) handy as kind of baseline to see how challenging it would be to become part of our community in specific countries.

@martinschatz-cz @alessandrofelder what do you think is the best way to proceed for the short term goal of the publication? I wonder whether this analysis is still relevant for the manuscript? fees have been set already for the membership. Perhaps we can mention in the manuscript that the fees were chosen considering the response of the community

and are not exceeding what is considered to be an acceptable value.
In general, to have a clear idea of the progress, we could act on issues to close them with an acceptable answer for the preparation of the manuscript and eventually reopen them if they are of interest in the long term, like this one. Thoughts?

Happy either way. In this specific case, I think we can close after either @martinschatz-cz or I review #23 . I agree we don't need to be this specific in the paper.

In general, I think it's fine to have open issues even if we've already moved past it on the paper side (in the spirit of the dataset/code part being independent of the paper).

I added a not urgent label to keep the issue open, yet not work on it urgently. We could also have a manuscript label for the really urgent manuscript related issues.
