I am trying to use OpenAI compatible API with kubectl-ai.

I have set the OPENAI_API_KEY and endpoint environment variable

But as shown in the below i am not getting any response not even error in the chat window. I do not see any error in kubectl-ai.log file.

Could anyone point me where could i be going wrong ?or where can i look for data points to debug further?

It could be helpful to know about your environment and the steps to reproduce:

• OS: [e.g. Ubuntu 22.04]
• kubectl-ai version (run kubectl-ai version): [e.g. 0.3.0]
• LLM provider: [e.g. gemini, openai, grok...]
• LLM model: [e.g. gemini-2.5-pro]
• Is this a local inference setup (vllm, ollama, llama.cpp, etc.) or a hosted setup (gemini api, openai api, etc.)?

Steps to reproduce the behavior:

1. Go to '...'
2. Run command '...'
3. See error

You may also find some more information by saving the session and looking at the log. You can run kubectl-ai with --new-session flag to make a new session, which will save it to your filesystem (for me, it was saved to $HOME/.kubectl-ai/sessions/{session name}/history.json

I've been experimenting with local stacks and open models lately on vllm (with openai endpoints) and I saw some similar behavior with a slightly older version of vllm that didn't yet support the model I was serving (gpt-oss-20b) on the api endpoint I was using (v1/chat/completions). If you're running a local inference stack, it would be nice to know what your setup looks like since that can have a big effect on whether things work correctly or not.
