Crashing with Vulkan SDK installed

Not version specific as i've tried with the latest and an older version.

Uninstalled Vulkan SDK and it'd run just fine.
I need Vulkan SDK to fix certain issues on some of my machines as several games/applications don't pick the correct GPU with Vulkan API.

I don't think it's worth focusing effort to fix this one issue. Just leaving a notice should be good enough.

Thanks for report, I've reproduced the issue.

It worked with earlier SDK version, not sure what changed, still investigating.

As a workaround you can temporarily Disable validation layer in Vulkan SDK configurator -

I've investigated a bit futher and preliminary conclusion (mostly as a note for myself) is a bit wierd: it seem sthat the linker used to link release binaries is too old, so memtest_vulkan.exe binary produced by CI has problems with vklayer_khronos_validation.dll

I switched to modern rust-lld linker in automated builds (changed build image in commit above). According to my testing now the issue of crashing with vulkan SDK installed is fixed. Fixed binary is in automated builds starting with this one and will be provided in the future release. (github requires users to be logged in to download automated build artifacts)

Also, now there is 2 .exe files in build artifacts, both should work, the one with -experimental suffix should be a bit more future proof.

As a side note - with validation layers enabled memtest vulkan may print quite a lot warnings. Thats more or less expected behaviour: validation layers are here to validate, memtest-vulkan explicitely allows their messages, and there are some validation problems, but all those messages does NOT prevent the test run, they are purely informative.

Tech note, maybe useful for people having issues with crashing VkLayer_khronos_validation.dll in their apps: this issue seems to be caused by some incomatibility of .exe created with quite ancient mingw gcc4.9.3-era linker with modern khronos valiudation .dll. Just relinking with another linker while keeping same mingw import library and crt object files and still linking to same win7-compatible msvcrt resolved the issue.
