Version difference?

Why do this version of BeTeX hardly works, but BeTeX from Pulkomandy's site https://pulkomandy.tk/~texlive/BeTeX works just fine?

Note that I'm not the author of this, I'm just offering some webspace for it so it doesn't get lost. But the sources there are quite possibly updated from what's here, feel free to merge the work.
