Describe the bug
Installed Heroic for Windows. There are now two Heroic shortcuts appearing in the Windows Start Menu, rather than the expected single shortcut.
One shortcut appears to have been added in the location for Start Menu items visible to All Users:
C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs
Another was added to the location for Start Menu items visible to the Current User:
C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs
If this has always been the case with Heroic installs, then it's possible something has changed with Windows' handling of duplicate shortcuts in these locations; I know that with folders that appear in both locations, their contents are merged and displayed as if in a single folder in the Start Menu. With recent changes MS has made to the Win 11 Start Menu, this may very well be an emergent Windows issue rather than a Heroic one.
As a temporary workaround, I have marked one of the shortcuts as Hidden and Read-Only, which effectively removes the duplicate from appearing in my Start Menu.
Just thought I'd mention it here for info / reference.
Add logs
N/A If not a Windows issue, this would have been an installer issue rather than an in-app one.
Steps to reproduce
- Install Heroic for Windows
- Open the Start Menu to observe created Shortcuts
Expected behavior
A single shortcut for Heroic would appear in the Start Menu without duplicates.
