generally it happens more when:

• the previous apitest run failed/was killed, leaving the fs in an inconsistent state

now I can consistently reproduce a hanging on the main branch, from a clean ./volatile folder:

1. start the server: npm start
2. run all tests: node ./tools/api-tester/apitest.js --config=./tools/api-tester/config.yml --bench

then it will hang at here:

[bench]write 30 tiny files ...
...[306]
[bench]write 30 tiny files -> make directories and write ...
...[426]
[bench]write 30 tiny files -> make directories and write -> make directories and write ...

This hanging may disappear after the merge of #1400 but we should keep it open as it might be caused by a backend bug. This hanging can be reproduced in any commit between 04ef8fb and 89dd335
