On Windows and macOS, files are distinguished by an extension to their filename.

Consistent spelling to make searching easier - would not need to try both to look for results.

I've seen it both ways.

If reading documentation and RFCs for fun, following a style guide makes the text more enjoyable.
When trying to answer a question (11316: Lua: should have a way to get current capture filename/path in Lua) being able to quickly search and see that the filename is not stored the pcapng file then moving on to another solution is quicker.
