The KITTI dataset I downloaded seems to have a different file format compared to the one used in your example. Did I download the wrong one?

OP didn't specify what dose the "different" means. I assume that the difference refers to the tree structure shown in README:

data_root
├── 00
│   ├── velodyne
│   ├── calib.txt
├── 01
├── ...

And if you download the file which OP was pointed at, the 00 folder doesn't come a calib.txt with it. But I found that the 1MB file I mentioned above have the similar folder structure:

├── 00
│   ├── calib.txt
│   └── times.txt
├── 01
│   ├── calib.txt
│   └── times.txt
├── ...

And a corresponding calib.txt file. And I can run the demo provided by author after coping all these files to the data_root . So I believe it is.
