f0_sectools User Guide

How to use f0_sectools — connect its read-only security tools to a local model through the agent platform of your choice, and drive them with skills and role personas.

This is a living guide. It grows with the software. When a platform integration, server, skill, or persona is added, update the matrix below and add the relevant runtime/workflow page. Keep it accurate over comprehensive.

What you get

Read-only AI tooling over your own security platforms, running on your infrastructure with a local open-weights model (GPT-OSS, Gemma 4, Qwen3). Nothing leaves the host. All seven platforms (including the ProjectAchilles gated actions) are live-validated today — see the support matrix below.

Start here

  1. Getting started — prerequisites, checkout, install, credentials, and a first verification. Do this once; every runtime needs it.
  2. Pick your runtime:
    • Hermes Agent — recommended; skills-aware, native MCP, personas.
    • LM Studio — turnkey desktop app (model + MCP + chat).
    • Open WebUI — web UI (needs the mcpo bridge).
    • Claude Code — terminal agent (skills + MCP).
    • pi — minimal terminal harness (skills + personas; MCP via the pi-mcp-extension bridge).
    • opencode — terminal agent (native MCP + native skills; wiring ships in-repo — just run it from the checkout).
    • Generic vLLM/llama.cpp + any MCP client → see running with local models.
  3. Using skills & personas — what the playbooks and the four role lenses do.
  4. Prompting — how to phrase requests so a small local model reliably drives the tools (matters a lot — read this).
  5. Workflows — example end-to-end tasks (posture, triage, hunt) with the prompts to use; annotated real-flow transcripts show what a session looks like.
  6. Gated actions — enabling write actions, running the approval watcher, and reading the audit trail (only if you need writes; everything is read-only until you do this).
  7. Troubleshooting — throttling, missing permissions, tools not firing — and the FAQ for evaluator questions (privacy, hardware, licensing).

Security platforms (servers)

Platform Server Status Tools
Microsoft Defender XDR f0-defender-mcp ✅ live-validated secure score, incidents, alerts, hunting (KQL), guided hunt
Microsoft Entra ID f0-entra-mcp ✅ live-validated risky users*, risk detections*, conditional access, privileged roles
LimaCharlie f0-limacharlie-mcp ✅ live-validated org overview, sensors (tag filter), D&R rules, detections, LCQL telemetry (incl. user activity + per-user filtering)
ProjectAchilles f0-projectachilles-mcp ✅ live-validated defense score, score trend, weak techniques, test results, risk acceptances, agents, fleet health
Microsoft Intune f0-intune-mcp ✅ live-validated managed devices, compliance summary, stale devices, compliance policies, config profiles
Tenable Vulnerability Management f0-tenable-mcp ✅ live-validated vulnerability summary, top vulnerabilities, assets, asset vulnerabilities, vulnerability info, scans, plugin affected-hosts
ProjectAchilles (actions) f0-projectachilles-actions-mcp ✅ live-validated gated run_test / schedule_test on a single host or a whole tag/fleet, set_schedule_status, cancel_tasks (single task or bulk status/search filter); reads list_schedules, get_task_status, list_tasks (needs a read-write pa_ key + PROJECTACHILLES_ALLOW_WRITE=true; driven by the run-validation-test skill, alongside the other ProjectAchilles skills)
Microsoft Purview f0-purview-mcp ✅ live-validated DLP alert summary + list, insider-risk alerts, sensitivity labels, unified-audit search (async two-phase) — needs AuditLogsQuery.Read.All; DLP/IRM content needs Purview licensing

* Identity Protection tools require Entra ID P2 + the relevant Graph permissions; otherwise they return a graceful "permission/throttled" finding.
