Connecting on macOS?

Has anyone been able to successfully use this on macOS? I can see the printer in my Bluetooth settings, but when I hit Connect it gives me this message:

To finish setting up this printer you need to go to Printers & Scanners Settings.

Following that prompt takes me there, but the printer isn't listed. Going back to Bluetooth settings, I can see the printer is "paired" but it won't stay connected.

I have not yet tested it on a Mac.

This software uses PySerial to drive the printer over whatever serial‑port device the OS provides (no built‑in Bluetooth logic), so as long as macOS exposes an SPP‐based /dev/cu.* node you’re good.

On macOS the “Printers & Scanners” pane only shows printers that CUPS exposes via standard print protocols (IPP/AirPrint, LPD, USB, SMB, etc.).

Please try these steps:

• Pair the PT‑P300BT in System Settings → Bluetooth.
• If no /dev/cu.*-SPP appears, install Apple’s Additional Bluetooth Tools (part of Xcode’s “Additional Tools”), then run Bluetooth Explorer → Tools → Serial Ports, click “+” and select your PT‑P300BT.
• After that you should see something like /dev/cu.PTCP300BT-SPP (always use the /dev/cu.* device on macOS).

So, it seems like the printer is connecting and staying connected today, but I don't have a /dev/ directory at all.

I tried installing those additional tools, but it seems like they may have dropped Bluetooth Explorer at some point - not sure if you have an alternate method of assigning the serial port? https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/404326/bluetooth-explorer-removed-from-xcode-tools-in-12-x

EDIT: ah, nevermind - i didn't think to try looking from the terminal. I found it! Looks like it's hanging on "Querying printer status..." right now, but I'll do some more troubleshooting.

Okay, I have /dev/cu.PT-P300BT9380 and /dev/tty.PT-P300BT9380 available. I can run printlabel.py with either, but it'll get hung up on the querying message regardless. It behaves the same way if the printer is disconnected, too, so I think it's safe to say there's no meaningful communication happening.

There's no /dev/cu.*-SPP option available, so I assume I'm back to needing that Bluetooth Explorer tool (or a modern alternative).

nope, gave up and ran it on windows instead
