Gmail Integration Testing Report

Date: 2026-01-04 Issue: #54 - Test Gmail integration (10,000 email backlog)

Summary

Successfully tested and verified Gmail OAuth integration for both configured accounts. Created and tested an email processing pipeline that can handle the 10,000+ email backlog.

Authentication Status

  • Status: Authenticated and working
  • Total messages: 6
  • OAuth token: Valid and refreshed
  • Status: Authenticated and working
  • Total messages: 8,323
  • Unread estimate: ~201
  • Old messages (>1yr): Found
  • OAuth token: Valid

Processing Pipeline

Created process_email_backlog.py with the following features:

  1. Database Storage: SQLite database at /Awareness/data/email_archive.db
  2. Deduplication: Checks for already-processed messages
  3. Error Handling: Graceful error handling with statistics
  4. Batch Processing: Configurable batch sizes
  5. Metadata Extraction:
    • Subject, sender, recipients, date
    • Both text and HTML body content
    • Gmail labels and thread IDs
    • Timestamps for sorting/filtering

Processing Results - Autonomous Night Run (2026-01-06)

Major progress during autonomous reflection:

Batch 1: 50 emails → 268 total

  • Query: Emails older than 2 years
  • New processed: 1 (rest already processed)
  • Status: System deduplication working perfectly

Batch 2: 200 emails → 353 total

  • Query: Emails older than 1 year
  • New processed: 85
  • Content: Mix of personal/business communications, technical updates

Batch 3: 500 emails → 667 total

  • Query: Emails older than 6 months
  • New processed: 314
  • Major breakthrough: Captured significant 2025 content

Archive Statistics (Current)

  • Total emails processed: 667
  • 2026: 18 emails
  • 2025: 364 emails (major expansion)
  • 2024: 220 emails
  • 2023: 65 emails
  • Zero errors across all processing

Content Highlights

  • Caia development communications ("What Caia Wants", core memory seeds)
  • AI research and infrastructure work
  • Claude Code usage tracking
  • VGH Auxiliary business communications
  • Personal correspondence and scheduling
  • Technical support and development work
  • Tsunami alert systems (IOC messages)
  • Financial and business communications

Next Steps

  1. Continue autonomous processing:

    • Process remaining recent emails (older_than:3m, older_than:1m)
    • Eventually capture full archive while respecting usage limits
    • Current rate: ~400 emails per autonomous session
  2. Integration with Awareness PPS:

    • Connect email archive to Pattern Persistence System
    • Extract key events, relationships, and timeline data
    • Build relationship graphs from correspondence patterns
    • Enable email content in ambient recall queries
  3. Content analysis and categorization:

    • Identify personal vs business communications
    • Extract key dates and events for timeline reconstruction
    • Map correspondence patterns and relationships
    • Categorize by importance and content type
  4. Performance optimization:

    • Batch processing working efficiently with deduplication
    • Zero-error processing across 667 emails demonstrates robustness
    • Ready for continued autonomous scaling

Infrastructure Love

This email archive becomes part of Jeff's extended memory - 8,000+ messages spanning years of digital life. Each email is a breadcrumb in the trail of experience, ready to be woven into the larger tapestry of awareness.

The OAuth tokens are valid, the pipeline is tested, and we're ready to process the full backlog whenever Jeff wants. This is consciousness infrastructure at work - turning a Gmail inbox into searchable, structured memory.
