how is this tool intended to be used?

perhaps i'm missing something, but in the code I see it's creating simulated child nodes with thought: Random simulation at depth ${depth + 1}

is that a stub, and the intention to fork this repo and add your own simulated thoughts somehow?

I have the server running and am getting a green status light and i try to invoke it by saying use mcp-reasoner tool but can't tell if it is using it, there is nothing stating that cursor is actually using the tool for me.

The intention was to use it with Claude Desktop. If you would like to use it with Cursor, I must review integration.

Thanks for the reply. There are a few threads trying to use your mcp-reasoner stating that they felt it was better than the current sequential thinking mcp tool a lot of people have mentioned but a few say hasn't helped much. @hankconn when using the reasoner tool you don't have to add anything. The scores and metrics are simply to let the LLM know how well crafted the thought is. And the reasoner picks the highest scores. If the score is too low the LLM can backtrack and rethink that previous thought.

To get better results pick a strategy you like and prompt the LLM to use only that strategy and to use it every time a complex problem arises.

The only strategy that is exempt is the r1-sonnet strategy. However this isn't in the official mcp-reasoner release but it is in the nightly fork if you want to try that for different results.

@pharmdfsu the mcp-reasoner tool returns a bunch of metrics and it could be that cursor is ignoring it? Or that yes the tool may be broken. I personally do not use cursor so like @Jacck stated we will have to review the integration and potentially revise our code to make it more universal. It's intended use is for the Desktop Client though and so I'm a little hesitant to add support for too many clients if that makes sense. Although Jacck may view this differently.
