Transient prompt not applied on pwsh

According to the docs the transient_prompt should be working in powershell. However, it is not applied in my case.

Did you restart your shell after applying it? You can always use oh-my-posh init pwsh --debug to see what it loads (and copy paste that output here if you will).

Nothing wrong here, my assumption is that another module is hijacking the ENTER key. If you add the oh-my-posh init line as the last line, do you still get the same issue? Would be interesting to also see your $PROFILE.

What also confuses me is the run duration:

In this section in my profile there is only 1 line, the one for oh-my-posh.

Run duration also includes everything else oh-my-posh needs to do to build the prompt. Still long, but config parsing and IO on your machine influence that. That said, it will never get enabled when $ExecutionContext.SessionState.LanguageMode -eq "ConstrainedLanguage" is true. So that's also something to check.

you were right. It was set to ConstrainedLanguage. I just changed it to FullLanguage in the profile and restarted a new shell. However, still not transients

That should be sufficient, unless if at the time of invocation it's still Constrained. It's not rocket science, it literally just adds a keyhandler on ENTER.

Few things can still happen here:

• Something actually is overriding the key handler: validate if Get-PSReadLineKeyHandler -Key Enter displays the OhMyPoshEnterKeyHandler function. If it doesn't, there's an override after you initialize oh-my-posh as your debug output implies we do try to set it
• It is set, but it fails under the hood. PSReadline is invoked to get the buffer state and that call can fail resulting in it being caught and not executed. Update PSReadline for this to work, but no guarantees there.
• You actually did not successfully set the language mode as it's disallowed on another level

There's only the check on constraint language, then it sets the handler immediately. If oh-my-posh init pwsh --print shows Enable-PoshTransientPrompt at the end, it's definitly the constraint language mode stopping it or PSReadline having bugs from it taking effect. There's zero additional logic on our end.

obviously, when using "invoke-expression" it is always running in constrainedLanguage. no matter what I do in my shell´s config

@LeopoldLerch according to that statement, nobody would be able to enable transient prompt on PowerShell. Which isn't true as it works for me on 4 machines, and for quite a lot of others out there. My issue count would rise significantly if that statement was true.

There's something to understand about this. You can find some very useful resources online, one is this:

By security-minded design, you cannot switch from a more restrictive PowerShell language mode to a more permissive one in-session. Therefore, executing $ExecutionContext.SessionState.LanguageMode = 'FullLanguage', i.e. switching to unrestricted use of all language features is pointless, because the command will only succeed if you're already in that language mode (as of 7.4 this command succeeds, but you're still in Constrained mode). If your PowerShell sessions are forced into ConstrainedLanguage mode by a WDAC or AppLocker policy, the only way to put them into FullLanguage mode is by changing the policy - which requires elevation (running with administrative privileges), so you may have to ask your IT department for assistance - assuming they're willing to allow you access to FullLanguageMode.

TL;DR: you need to correctly disable Constrained language mode. If you're using an enterprise managed device, you're highly likely out of luck.
