Is os supposed to show only the host os? #6940

Hi,

I have an os segment and thought it would be useful to show the os of whatever context I'm in (such as inside a container), but it only ever seems to show my host os. Is that expected?

@JanDeDobbeleer My host machine is Fedora. I am not sure what you mean by "how docker works" here.

I am not familiar with Go, but I had a look at the segment code, and can see it using oi.env.Platform() to get the platform. I found Platform defined within the Environment interface, but couldn't find the implementation to get an idea of what might be happening.

In any case, inside the container I can see that /etc/os-release contains the expected ID of ubuntu. I thought that would be the source of truth for the os, but like I said am having trouble figuring out what actually is.

We also cache this output which could imply it uses the same cache file path. Can you run oh-my-posh debug --plain and provide the logs?

Not sure if you're used toolbx before, but it's basically containers with a lot of stuff mapped into the container to make it feel like it's running on the host, or as close to as possible. This includes mapping in the user's home directory. So in this case, different toolboxes/containers running completely different operating systems are using the same omp cache.
