How does Jujutsu fetch_ahead_counter work?

I'm slowly switching from git to jj and I wanted to update my prompt accordingly. In git I have plenty of options for information that I can use in templates, but jj seems quite limited in comparison. The fetch_ahead_counter is a counter I'd like to use but the docs are lacking any information about how to use the counter, and in testing I've been unable to make it or the ahead_icon appear.

How can I make proper use of them?

You need to add fetch_ahead_counter: true to the options which then populates the .ClosestBookmarks template property. You need to add that property to your template.

Sorry I found out I misspelled fetch_ahead_counter to fetch_ahead_status 😅 Absolute skill issue on my side.

To add on to this, but I'd be happy to move this to a separate discussion: would it be possible to enhance this feature to allow for the counter itself (no closest bookmark, no icon) to be put in a template? For Git I put relevant numbers in my titlebar for instance but with this approach is impossible. In general it makes more sense to me to make it more modular rather than it all existing in ClosestBookmarks.
