Needs AppImage / Flatpack / Snap for GNU/Linux

Since two or three versions, I don't see the horizontal menu bar on top of every window of WLJS. So, can't access Settings etc.

Have you tried the latest binary for linux from releases? A few versions ago we changed it to the native desktop menu, which requires a manual installation a binary (not just automatic update, unfortunately electron does not support it fully).

AppImage did show many problems with permissions. We couldn't fix those, may be in the future some cool Linux guy would help us.

.deb turned out to be more "practical".

But if you need, I can build one for you.

It's nice of you to offer, but I don't want to be a custom workload for you. It's just that I fear dependency issues with other packages using.deb files. Does WLJS recquires other packages from APT while installing ? And have you explored the possibility of using Snap or Flatpak ?

I will try tomorrow on Ubuntu.
Did you check the errors from deb package by chance?

I v seen apparmor was causing troubles on some Linux distros in 2024. But there was an easy fix for it

Please check snap. I tested on Ubuntu, it seems working well

Flatpak I did not manage to build... many errors, undebugabble.

I included this build recipy to the repo. From now on all releases will include snap.

I tried to install the snap via terminal but got an error : erreur : cannot find signatures with metadata for snap "wljs-notebook-2.6.3-amd64.snap"

I see... We need to sign an app and publish it on snapstore officially. why the world is so complicated
For now it should work with a flag

snap install wljs<name>.snap --dangerous --classic

guys posted similar thing on Obsidian app

UPD: It fails to locate wolframscript, I guess because snaps are isolated... We should find other option...

I'm using the zip version and it works like a charm, big thank you.

Are there any drawbacks to using a zip version for you or for the users, in contrast to AppImage ?

There are some disadvantages

• No automatic file association (probably one can do it manually)
• URL protocol might not work (to open notebooks from web pages)

Apart from that, I expect no differences
