Error when loading "Teilnehmende" and "Web-Zugriffe" on demo server

Dear ESMira team,
I am currently running a study on the demo server (esmira.kl.ac.at) and encountered a persistent error: when I navigate to Daten → Teilnehmende or Daten → Web-Zugriffe, the page shows "Lade..." followed immediately by an "Error" message. All other sections (Daten-Tabelle, Zusammenfassung, Script Logs) load without problems, and the Script Logs confirm that all participant entries are being saved correctly. The error also occurs in different browsers.
Study ID: 2139
Could you please check whether this is a known issue with the demo server, or whether there is a workaround?

Hi there.

Just to check, do you mean esmira.kl.ac.at or demo-esmira.kl.ac.at? The first would be our actively used server, the second is the demo server.
Now, unfortunately so far I am not able to reproduce the problem you mentioned with any studies that are on this (or our other) server. Also, the demo server resets once a day, and none of the studies permanently on there has that study id, so I cannot check that study directly (and we are also not aware of such an issue in general). Can you reproduce the problem with any other studies?

Hi Manja,

unfortunately I am a bit confused by your info. https://esmira.kl.ac.at is our server. It is not a demo server, but the server we actively use for studies. To my knowledge, you neither have an account there, nor do we have any study with that ID. If it's on another server on another web address that I do not have access to, I cannot take a look directly.
As mentioned, I tried both the Participants and Web Access sections, and in the studies I tested them they worked. Do you have other studies where they also don't work (or do work)?

I found the source of confusion: my study is running on my own server (esm-praktikum.de on Strato hosting), not on your server. I apologize for the misunderstanding.
The error occurs specifically in the "Teilnehmende" and "Web-Zugriffe" sections. PHP error logs are empty, memory_limit is 256MB, max_execution_time is 60 seconds. The study has 13 participants and 45 entries so far. All other sections work fine.
Do you have any idea what could cause this error on a Strato shared hosting server?

Unfortunately we cannot reproduce that issue on our end. So we need more information about the error (maybe even screenshots)?

What exactly does the error message say? Is it the same message / behavior in "Teilnehmende" and "Web-Zugriffe"?

Hi,
thank you for your response. The error behavior is identical in both "Teilnehmende", "Web-Zugriffe" and now also "Zusammenfassung": after clicking, the pages shows "Lade..." for a moment, then immediately displays a small pink error box with just the word "Error" and an X to close it. The page remains otherwise blank. There is no additional error message or details shown.
I have attached a screenshots showing the behavior.
The issue started after the first few days of data collection (now 13 app registrations, 45 entries). In the first days it worked correctly.

Thank you for this info. Considering that you did not get any PHP errors, I suspect that the issue is not server side (at least not within ESMira). I also doubt this amount of data would cause you to hit the memory limit.
Maybe you can get more info by activating the developer tools. In most browsers you can find these under "more tools" towards the bottom of the browser's menu, or activate them via CRTL+SHIFT+I (this shortcut should be consistent between most browsers). This will open a panel with multiple tabs, one of them labeled "Console". Then, after opening the developer tools, navigate to the problematic section in ESMira. Most of the time these kinds of errors should also pop up in the console, usually with quite a bit more information. If you can show us these messages, we might have a better chance of pinpointing the issue.

It seems a JavaScript chunk file cannot be loaded correctly.

Unfortunately that only points to the loader itself. Not sure if that is broken, or something else.
Another source of information is the tab "Netzwerkanalyse", which shows the server responses. However, there might be quite a few, so I am not sure where to point you.

In the screenshot above there are two kinds of errors. One saying "Error" and the other one "Error:"
Both of them have a little triangle to the left of them. Can you press that little triangle on both and send us a screenshot with the additional information included?

In general, the problem seems to be, that the CsvWorker (which, in this case interprets your events.csv and outputs its data in a background process of your browser) throws an error. One cause for that might be that your events.csv might be corrupted. Can you try downloading your events.csv (you can do that in Daten-Tabelle by clicking the cloud button next to Events) and see if you can open it with Excel (and have a look if the data seems to be formatted correctly - so everything being in the correct column)
