pre-commit hook not working

I have resorted to commiting with --no-verify to skip the hooks because they do not work and i found no way to properly do it. I would prefer reverting the git hooks pull request as it has just messed with how i handle the commits. I think each contributor should be able to use their own hooks.

It is due to prettier as discussed in #236

In which case i think we should provide a simple hook which they can easily use, but make this optional. For example make install-hooks.
