Making it work with external modules

I was wondering if someone could help me figure out how to use this with an external module. I have a module that renders a video and sends the progress to stdout as an integer.
However I cannot seem to find out how to send this stdout data to the status bar instead of the yielded x value from the example.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
