Gemini API request fails (and messages about my Kilo Code balance being low)

Hi, I just got kilo installed and I chose Google Gemini as my API provider and gave it the Gemini API key from my Google AI studio account. And I get API Request Failed and a message that says "Your Kilo Code balance is low" - as far as I understand it Gemini 2.5 Pro preview is free to use (it is in my Google AI Studio). Am I doing something wrong here?

(I'll add here that Cline seems to be working OK, though it does eventually start giving errors about exceeding quotas, whereas with kilo it doesn't even get started on my query before I get the error)

@philtomson we're looking into this! In the meantime can you email [email protected] your account email address so that we can make sure that you have enough credits to get past this for now?

I got an email from kilocode saying that I hadn't used any credits and they wondered if I was having issues (that was on June 4 - I just tried again today with similar results so no credits have been used)

... ok, sorry, that was using kilo code as the provider. Now when I try to use Google Gemini as the provider I immediately get the following:
