Adding some more comments here.

• My use case is within an Enterprise.
• We use TLS interception and therefore I cannot use it anymore until I disable the interception on my side which is not operationally ideal.
• because certificate pinning can be controlled from within the application, the AWS CLI natively comes with an option where I can still make it work when I'm using the command line. However, I can't do the same here.

Maybe you are using the SDK directly so you have to expose certain environment variables to keep the burden to the minimum. A native facade option would be ideal.

I would prefer passing a certificate bundle and doing it that way.

Both the options are necessary in fact and not just useful. Internally, you may have to swap over / default to in case the preferred selection doesn't work.
