Auto-retry for failed requests like 500s and 503s

I thought we already had this, but I'm not sure if we have this for all error codes?

We have the max tries now (since #288) but we might not have the retrying on all status codes.

We do have this indeed but it's off by default because it caused a lot of issues. I'll investigate if we can turn it on by default and if it works for 5xx errors also
