Is it somehow possible to allow users to register LDAP users themselves?

It is currently not possible, but not impossible to add in the future.
Would that be a helpful feature for you?

With a few smaller additions this could replace a rather complex external service like:
https://github.com/pwm-project/pwm
or
https://github.com/ltb-project/self-service-password
for most organisations.

Besides making the life of the system admin easier of course :)
