Data probe

Seb recently implemented a data probe with a "hover mode" and a "click mode". It would be very useful to port that to QuickCompare.

We might want to clarify what/how information will be presented in the tooltip box, and I'd be happy to discuss that in our next meeting. My tentative thought is to show values of all views in the current viewport and have them grouped by variable. Would it be possible to let the tooltip box show a table? If so, it would be nice to have simulations as rows and variables as columns.

Hi @willdunklin , thanks for offering these thoughtful options.

Let me first remind myself of the following:

• We are in the multi-sim mode and using the Diff comparison mode.
• The viewport is likely showing multiple variables in different plot blocks. (I'm referring to these blocks as "variable sections" in the documentation).
• In each section/block, the viewport is showing a "Value" plot for the ctrl simulation and "Diff" plots for the other simulations.

I was thinking that if I had also loaded additional variables, say num_a1 and AODBC, it might be nice to show these variables as additional columns in the same tooltip. (If the user has loaded many variables, we will run out of screen space, but hopefully the number of loaded variables is usually small.)

In this context, yes, the inclusion of the source values is useful! Could we make the following small modifications:

• For the column title that is shown in blue in your last screenshot, remove the parentheses, i.e., use "ABSORB Diff".
• In the row of the ctrl simulation, show info in the same style as in the other rows. I.e., show 0 in a bigger font, and the source value below with a smaller font and in gray.
• When presenting the source values, instead of saying "SIMULATION_LABEL (value): xxxxx", shorten to "(value: xxxxx)" and put both the text and the number into parentheses.

Just some tentative thoughts. Thanks for your help!

Just a note to ourselves that version 1.9.0 has included Will's implementation shown by the 2nd screenshot above.

I would appreciate having the minor updates suggested in my previous comment:

These would make the presented table more intuitive to read and a little more compact. Thanks a lot!
