Description

What are your recommendations for creating a MDPA mesh ? (using open tools)

Say I want to modify the Turek case mesh, what do you guys recommend ? Are there free GiD licenses for students ?

If I recall, the meshio converter to and from MDPA has bugs ? Otherwise, can we still use GMSH with another converter ?

GiD is free for low amount of nodes. Some people use Salomé for generting the meshes, there is a plugin for creating mdpa AFAIK

Hello, another alternative is to mesh with gmsh or similar and convert with meshio. I have a fork with submodelpart support in here nschloe/meshio#1553

The MedApplication is an interface with the med-library, which is the native mesh format of Code_Aster.
You can create meshes in salome and export them as med, and then read them with the med-app

If you want to modify and existing mdpa file, you could read it with Kratos, then export as med via the med-app. Then you can modify it with salome too

I second this. Salome is a decent open-source preprocessor and writes in (among others) MED format.
