Test coverage gap report — v2.1 audit kickoff

Recon report for the v2.2 test pillar lands at docs/testing/coverage-gaps-v2.1.md. This issue tracks the kickoff; per-gap follow-ups should reference back to this one.

This is a recon-only pass: no new tests were written. Subsequent agents pick gaps off the report and produce focused PRs.

Summary

Coverage measured via dotnet test --collect XPlat Code Coverage (cobertura merged with reportgenerator) + node --test for the JS surface. Full report at docs/testing/coverage-gaps-v2.1.md.

C# aggregate: 87.0 % line, 77.2 % branch, 80.4 % full-method coverage across 1 427 passing tests in 36 test projects. Healthy headline but uneven distribution.

JS aggregate: 22 passing tests across only 2 of 44 wwwroot/js modules (script-sandbox.test.mjs for #126, history-replay.test.mjs for #285). Roughly 60 kLOC of JS is effectively un-tested.

Top six gaps — all v2.1 endpoints with sub-60 % line coverage and meaningful mutation surface:

1. BowireCatalogueEndpoints 13.3 % — URL / service catalogue providers (local / http / consul / kubernetes / agent) #136 catalogue providers (POST/PUT/DELETE/override untested)
2. BowirePresetEndpoints 23.8 % — Per-mode 'Saved Configs' / Presets (distinct from cross-workflow favorites) #140 per-mode presets
3. BowireCollectionEndpoints 34.2 % — Compose rail: integrate Collections + Presets — three sources, one organized destination #295 Compose-rail integration
4. BowireInterceptorEndpoints 52.2 % — Bowire as transparent interceptor — embedded middleware + standalone reverse-proxy #153 reverse-proxy + middleware config
5. BowireWorkspaceEndpoints 54.6 % — Action log Phase 2 — remaining mutation sites + cross-reload undo + soft-delete workspaces #194 / User-defined workspace templates — save current workspace as a template, surface in create dialog #242 soft-delete + templates

These are .NET endpoints so the existing Kuestenlogik.Bowire.IntegrationTests WebApplicationFactory harness applies — small/medium effort per gap, no new infra needed.

JS waves need a tiny harness first: most existing 22 tests directly import modules and assert on returned data shapes; the same pattern scales. Highest-value JS targets are benchmarks.js + perf-diff.js (#231, #233, #234, #300), the Hopp-bar / Compose-rail trio (#266–#268, #289, #291, #293), and vars-*.js (#145 deprecation).

Wave 2 shipped (commit a1c4063): added node-tests for 8 JS modules (scripts, vars-deprecation, history-env, benchmarks, perf-diff, request-builder, request-builder-protocols, catalogue) — 205 new test cases bringing wwwroot-js coverage from 2 of 44 modules to 10 of 44 (~23%). 34 still untested.

All 226 cases pass; 1 case skipped pending #316 (substituteMessages crashes on 2nd+ array entry — Array.map index leaks into substituteVars's cycle-guard parameter; discovered while wiring up history-env tests).
