Les philosophes Islamiques les plus connus de l'époque sont :
- al-Kindi
- selon qui
- entre la science et la foi il y a une harmonie parfaite
- la révélation et la philosophie ne sont pas différentes dans le contenu mais seulement dans la méthode
- Avicenne
- qui
- tente de concilier philosophie grecque et révélation islamique
- l'âme est la forme du corps (Aristote), mais c'est une substance autonome et immortelle (Coran)
- Dieu a créé l'univers à partir de rien (Coran) mais les choses viennent de lui par émanation (Plotin)

- soutient la priorité absolue de la foi sur la raison
- défense de la liberté de la création divine et déni de la relation nécessaire entre Dieu et le monde
- la vérité ne s'obtient qu'avec la foi

- entre la raison et la foi il n'y a pas de contradiction
- il y a deux discours :
- le religieux adressé au peuple
- le philosophique adressé aux savants
- il n'y a pas de différence de contenu entre eux
- la philosophie sert à clarifier la vérité religieuse
