T-Beam V1.2 Power Up upon Battery Install

I have two t-beam v1.2 and neither of them will automatically power up when I install a fresh 18650. I have to either plug it into USB power or press the power button on the board to get it to boot. My v1.1 boards automatically boot when a battery is installed. Is this normal behavior for v1.2? If so is there a way to get it to perform similar to the v1.1.
