I've used Proton as my primary mail provider for personal coms for the past few years now. It's not perfect, but does tick most the boxes, and what I really like is the web client: The UI can be navigated with keyboard, there's plenty of QoL features (rules for incoming mail, searching + filtering is powerful, scheduled send, signatures, auto forwarding, etc). Never had any issues with mails rendering, which is common in smaller and newer providers. You're not locked in, as you can either download/export your mails, or use the Bridge to sync with Thunderbird (or any other client), BUT both options do involve you downloading a tool (which feels slightly unnecessary). The pricing is a little be steep, you're looking at 4-10€/month, as the free plan doesn't allow for custom domains (so I'd not recommend, as it makes switching harder). But for my use case, I'm happy to pay this. |
