How to change locale for playwright html report generation?

I understand that this may not be the right place to ask this.

Playwright's html test reports print the date as MM/DD/YYYY.

Nor being a docker or javascript specialist, I think I've been able to deduce that playwright uses

Intl.DateTimeFormat()

which uses the environment's locale / timezone settings.

I've tried to change the locale and timezone in various ways, but I'm shooting in the dark and not even 100% sure changing locale/TZ is what I should be doing to change the date format.

Playwright offers very few report customisation options other than writing your own fully custom reporting, which would be a silly thing to have to do just to change a date format.

Any hints greatly appreciated.

Good investigation!

As you found, it's going to use whatever locale is set in the ddev containers. I'm guessing this means your app also doesn't have the desired locale set?

You may need to install additional packages: https://docs.ddev.com/en/stable/users/extend/customizing-images/#adding-locales

Then, you can override it in your config:

web_environment:
  - LANG=en_US.UTF-8
  - LC_ALL=en_US.UTF-8

Setting the locale worked, but the date format problem is not solved.

After adding the following to config.yaml:

webimage_extra_packages: [locales-all]
web_environment:
  - LANG=nl_BE.UTF-8
  - LC_ALL=nl_BE.UTF-8

I was able to set the web container to my locale and have it persist after restart.
Both the locale and locale -a commands reflect this.

However, newly generated test reports still show the US date format.

At this point I've already lost too much time on this small nitpick.
Out of curiosity I'd like to figure out how to get my desired date format, but I'm not blocked in my work, so this is very low priority.

No worries. I suppose one final thing you could double check is if you have npm / nodejs on your host, you could spin up a playwright test following their getting started guide, and see what the date format is.
