Hello,
Here is a small mockup of what an advanced filter system within Lychee might look like “in an ideal world.”
Multiple album selection + Multiple tag selection.
Result: in this mockup, for example, we would get all of Ken Kelly's covers in Creepy AND Eerie magazines (or, in the case of a selection of 2 tags, all of Kelly AND Frazetta's covers in Creepy AND Eerie magazines... etc.)

I am not sure about the Albums part.
I can see that the tag allow quick filtering of the photos in the album page. That is fairly easy to implement and should not require a heavy computation server-side.

However adding the sub-album constraint makes it significantly harder to implement as it becomes a search functionality instead.

PS : Of course, ideally, these filters should be “public.”

Or at least an option to decide whether to have them public or private. :)

I had some idea of the difficulty and development time required to merge Albums and Tags in order to achieve parent and child-level filtering. There are entire WordPress plugins dedicated solely to this task.
In any case, I believe that a tag filter for each album (private or public, as desired) would be a definite asset for Lychee.

But these are just suggestions :)

Hmm, I see a problem with this mockup: if there are a lot more tags in the gallery (for example, hundreds or thousands of tags), it could quickly become cluttered. How about an advanced search that allows to filter by tags and albums? (I was just about to create a feature request for this, but maybe it fits with this one?)

Of course, it's clear that an interface overload problem would soon arise....this suggestion for an “advanced search” would indeed be much more functional and effective....thank you very much for following up!
