I was thinking: if ZFS can be created directly in Proxmox, why not create something like your monitoring tool, but focused on NAS functionality?

It could give you control over permissions, allow you to create and modify pools like TrueNAS, but natively inside Proxmox — almost like having a basic NAS built into Proxmox. That way, you could avoid creating a NAS VM and then passing NFS or SMB shares from the VM to the LXCs. Everything would be integrated directly, similar to the monitoring tool you made, but focused on NAS features.

It is just an idea. I doubt I could build it because I do not have the skills for that, but I was thinking about it last night.

Honestly, that’s something I’ve thought about many times as well. You could take advantage of Proxmox’s capabilities and, for example, use an LXC like Nextcloud, connect the disks, and build a kind of NAS setup.

It’s true that Proxmox isn’t designed specifically for that purpose, but I agree with you — it’s so versatile that using ZFS volumes and connecting them to a file management system could be more than enough for many users.

To be honest, I would actually like something like that, but you're right—Proxmox isn't designed to be a NAS. Still, you could set something similar up; after all, it is Linux. But it's better to keep those things separate. The only reason I was thinking about it was for storage management purposes, since LXC containers tend to use a lot of space on average. Anyway, thanks for always keeping an eye on things—you're doing a great job.
