App doesn’t run in windows sandbox

Submitting DWMBlurGlass to winget is a stupid idea. Unlike typical applications, DWMBlurGlass achieves its effects by injecting its component into the DWM process and patching relevant internal functions in memory. However, DLL injection requires the target process to have read access to the DLL, and DWM runs in a sandbox for security reasons, restricting access to subdirectories under C:\Users. This means placing DWMBlurGlass in those locations would prevent it from being injected into DWM, making it ineffective.

So the problem isn’t that it’s in the user folder, it’s that the process itself wouldn’t be able to access the folder because of permissions.

So a machine-scoped winget package should work then. I think those are put in ProgramData

It looks like it can be run in ProgramData, so we have one more uninstall button.

aye i figured i'd post here as i went to reinstall this using UnigetUI via Winget and all it did was give me the zip, is it not capable of being an auto installed program? what am i not seeing here?

Well, the winget package was not submitted by us. It was likely put on hold due to the issues mentioned above.

As previously discussed, the application cannot run from a user directory, but winget seems to install it there. You will need to manually extract the program to a folder like C:\Program Files or C:\ProgramData.

DWMBlurGlass comes with a GUI. Once extracted, just open it and click Install to get it running.
