Enhance insert node on line

Feature request:
If I want to insert a new node into an existing line, I usually select that line, and drag the red cross symbol, that is centered between existing nodes.
If the line is long, it can happen that the red cross is outside the current view, and I can't drag it.
Would it be possible to always show the cross, even if that means it is not centered?
Let me know if my description is unclear ;-)

You can also long touch the line at the point. Then you can create a new line from that.
But when you touch the point again, you have created a new point in the existing line.

@HolgerJeromin touching the line merely selects it, or am I missing something?
I know I can long click, and press +, but that opens the properties window, which I then have to close. So that's 3 actions instead of 1.

Correct. I do not know / use another workflow

In legacy mode long click will add a node if you are clicking within the tolerance around the way, and the same if you use "Add node" in simple mode. While I have some sympathy for the request I'm not quite convinced that it is a good idea, but I'll give it a think.
