I am writing to ask for some guidance in building MikTex from source on Windows 11. I've done installs the traditional way, but would like to play with the latest pdflatex versions so that I can work with newer packages such as ltx-talk as a transition from Beamer. I'm a faculty at a US university and am interested in building more accessible pdfs from LaTeX.
I've read through the documentation (https://miktex.org/howto/build-win), and wanted to make sure that I am matching many of the required dependencies. I have Visual Studio 2022 Community installed. Some questions that I have include:
1.) What Cl compiler version is being used to build (I currently have 19.44.35217 for x64)? What flags are recommend during the Cmake?
2.) The documentation talk about Cygwin. Specifically for those who have had recent successful builds, which packages did you install there and did the version matter?
3.) For FOP did you do this through an outside download?
4.) Has anyone made use of the vcpkg installers instead of Cygwin?
5.) For libxlst-what is the best recommended location for a native win32 version? Is this still needed for a 64 bit build of miktex?
Sorry if these questions are stupid. Once I get a successful build, I'll document in detail what was done. Thanks in advance!
