Change link target directory does not work in versions 22.8 and 22.8.28 in Monterey 12.4 #1172

Hi,
I've compiled multiple recent releases (22.1, 22.7, 22.7.30, 22.8, 22.8.28) of MikTex on Apple macOS Monterey 12.4. Compilation was flawless for any version. However, 22.8 and 22.8.28 fail to change the link target directory. Trying to do so fails! Below you see the crucial part of the miktex.log:

It seems only the most recent releases (22.8 and 22.8.28) are affected by this.
