Spider-man vs The Kingpin gameplay freeze on subway levels

I've noticed that the game eventually freezes on the subway levels. Just leaving it playing with Spider-man on top of the train, without touching any controls, and after a while the gameplay freezes.

The train sounds still play once frozen, no cd music is playing anymore, it seems somehow related to the audio tracks not playing anymore.

Tried multiple bioses including the default, US 1.00 and US 2.1 and multiple rom combinations CHD, CUE + Multiple Bin and CUE+Single Bin.

Any news about the reported issue being acknowledged? Tried the latest nightly version of the core and the game still hangs on the train levels.
