We've just published an updated roadmap that clarifies Shimmy's direction and our commitment to the community.

Forever Free Promise

Shimmy Core will always remain completely free and open-source. No feature limitations, no usage limits, no forced upgrades. This isn't a "community edition" - it's the full product, forever.

What's Coming

Q4 2025: Enterprise embeddings, sub-50ms startup, enhanced model discovery
2026: Shimmy Console (TUI frontend), advanced inference capabilities, Shimmy Cloud for enterprise
The roadmap reflects our vision of building privacy-first local AI infrastructure while maintaining the lightweight, zero-config philosophy that makes Shimmy unique.

Community First

Premium offerings will extend Shimmy's capabilities but never replace or limit the core experience. We're building sustainable revenue streams that don't exploit the community that got us here.
