Feedback on error messaging and a clarification [new user]

Hi! I'm in the process of getting this set up, very excited to use it.

Two points of feedback that might save future you some trouble (and some Github issues!)

1. The error messaging when I forgot to update the .net SDK side of things was pretty vague. If I wasn't someone who wanted to check the logs, that would've been a user complaint

2. The "Git Folder" in the project set up... this is gonna sound dumb, but I genuinely thought you wanted to point to .git in order to do some crazy fiddly stuff with the repo, so I just targeted that and let it rip! It didn't like that. I do not recommend.

I'd consider alternative language, but not sure what. "Spriggit destination folder" or something?

For 1), yeah, I agree. Hoping to port over the SDK detection logic from Synthesis soon

For 2) I have some logic that detects if the user is outputting next to the .git folder, as that's also a problem. I can see about checking/blocking if it's within .git as well to just outright not allow it

Just to confirm - it's okay to have the output in a subfolder _next_ to the .git folder, you just can't output directly next to it? What's a typical structure? For me I was gonna go with - Mod/Repo Name - .hit - Data - Scripts - Spriggit - ModName.esp Is that typical? Not committed anything yet so figured I'd ask as part of the clarification. And this tool has already helped! Was frustrated I couldn't un-set the "SWF file" field of a quest inside the CK UI and someone suggested Spriggit! Already fixed :) (PS no real difference on json vs yaml, just personal preference?) Thanks!

yeah, it's fine if it's a subfolder next to .git

The idea is that spriggit nukes its target folder and replaces all the files, and so if there's other things in there, it takes those with it. If something like .git is in its output folder, it gets nuked.

Haha, well i generally do not suggest using Spriggit as a modding tool. It's just a storage tool. Normal modding tools should be used to make modifications, and spriggit should just be what allows the resulting file to be stored in git.

So for ex, i'd have just suggested you use xEdit to do that? I'd imagine it would be able to do it just the same

Buuut, i get that people use it this way anyway no matter what i tell em. 😉 There's just some pitfalls if you take it too far and make crazy json based scripts or whatever. (highly not recommended; just use Mutagen for crazy logic like that)
