collaboration without being admin

We tested the Jupyter collaboration plugin and we couldn't find a way to make it work for non admin people, admin from https://openscapes.2i2c.cloud/hub/admin#/

Do you know why this collaboration plugin would only work if we're a hub admin, or better yet, can it work for everybody without having to make them hub admins?

The big question in sharing is: Who grants access to what servers and when? I can answer more precisely if you let me know more about who should have access to what servers and who decides who should have access and when, and based on what criteria.

If access to other servers should be relatively static or based on group membership, etc. then it's granting the access:servers scope for the appropriate users or groups via roles in config.

The big feature in JupyterHub 5 is user-initiated sharing, which means users can manage access to their own server without further admin involvement. The only thing admins need to do in this case is turn the whole feature on. The missing piece here is we haven't built UI for this, only the REST endpoints. You could also use the shares API to allow admins to grant runtime access to other user servers without letting users do it for themselves.

Also as an exercise if you have time, it would be useful to get feedback on if the answer to your question can be found in the docs, and if not, what you looked for / what information was missing or hard to find. Writing these docs so they are actually useful from a user perspective has been a challenge.
